: Atomic Checkers - Iphone game development
Atomic Checkers Iphone game was originally started as a marketing project of MoveYourWeb with the purpose to highlight iphone game development capabilities of MoveYourWeb’s game development and animation department. Upon completion the game was selected by Apple’s team as featured application in all categories and game categories of Apple Web Apps directory.
Challenges
- Competitors: Being passionate about checkers we realized that several checkers games for Iphone was already developed. We wanted to come up with the game with a stylish user interface and multiplayer capability;
- Multiplayer mode: Iphone gives us amazing opportunity – to play games against friends and unknown people using a phone. We consider it to be a new platform for multiplayer games. Until release and now there weren’t any other checkers with multiplayer developed for Iphone That single functionality alone was enough to outbid existing checkers games;
- User Interface: Stylish user interface coupled with professional animation used in the game was a factor for competing with existing Iphone game;
- Performance Optimization: The game enjoys up to 50 simultaneous single player sessions during the peak time usage so we need to ensure that Artificial Intelligence performance (computer opponent) does not over load the server.
The project development team managed to carefully address each of the challenges which resulted in the successful release of the game.
Results
Right after the submission to the Apple Web App directory the game was selected as a Featured Application in All Categories and in Games and stayed there for several weeks. It was also featured as the most popular application in terms of traffic. Besides we received links from PR5-7 pages and additional traffic to the corporate web site of MoveYourWeb. The game was also featured on several third-party web sites.
